 Sainte Marie est une commune qui se trouve à l'endroit où Christophe Colomb débarqua pour la première fois en Guadeloupe.Un buste sculpté par u. bacci, de carrare a été posé en haut d’une petite colonne pour faire un petit mémorial. Est inscrit sur le monument ceci :
